We invite all those interested in psychoanalysis to participate in the XІ International Psychoanalytic Summer School “Psychoanalysis = Psychе + Soma”.

The history of psychoanalysis started when the mute body found its voice through a hysterical symptom. Freud’s psychoanalytic discoveries brought together body and soul – which until then had been viewed as opposites in different human sciences – showing that the body is not merely a biological mechanism, but a symbolic stage upon which the dramas of the unconscious are played out. From this moment on, the symptom is no longer just a medical fact – it becomes a statement, an encrypted message, a riddle addressed to the Other. The psychic manifests itself in the corporeal, and the body finds itself incorporated into language, desire and the structure of the subject.

Our Summer School invites participants to examine the inseparability of the mental and the physical through the prism of classical and contemporary psychoanalysis. Psyche + Soma is not the sum of two components of the human subject, but a tense unity in which a body becomes a stage of the unconscious, and a symptom becomes its voice, its articulation.

 Key research topics:

1. The body as an interface for the unconscious: why does the psyche choose to ‘discharge’ tension into a body part (conversion vs. psychosomatic phenomena)?
2. The language of symptoms and the topography of drives: how neurotic, conversion and psychosomatic symptoms are formed; the concept of the Trieb (drive) as a boundary notion between the psychic and the somatic.
3. Three registers of the body (according to J. Lacan): studying a body as the Imaginary (an image and a mirror), the Symbolic (signified by the Other) and the Real (a locus of jouissance).
4. The virtual body and a corporeality in the consulting studio: an analysis of a new form of corporeality in the space of digital projections, where physical presence is replaced by a pixelated image.
5. Anatomy as a destiny in the mirror of modernity: a reinterpretation of Freud’s famous aphorism: how does biological reality interact with cultural transformations and the ‘vicissitudes of destiny’ today?

The school’s program includes lectures, master classes led by experts, clinical case presentations, supervision sessions, and discussions…

Participation fee:
Through May 31, 2026 – 4,500 UAH; for UAP members – 3,700 UAH.
Through July 31, 2026 – 5,000 UAH, for UAP members – 4,000 UAH.
From August 1, 2026 – 6,500 UAH, for UAP members – 5,500 UAH.
For presenters – 50% of the fee. The deadline for presenter registration is June 20, 2025.
